We need to change our previously scheduled August 16 meeting to Sept 6.

Dear Ojai Valley Democrats,  The August 16 meeting was rescheduled to September 6 due to a heavy run of events in the intervening weeks.

Key Updates & Agenda Topics

  • At-Large Voting Initiative Petition: The initiative petition to restore at-large voting in Ojai is still under review by the Ojai City Attorney's Office. Expected to be ready the week of Sept 1.

  • California Democratic Council (CalDC): The CalDC Board met to discuss OVDC's affiliation status. OVDC's Bylaws are also under review for submission to CalDC.

  • VCDCC Charter Appeal: The CADems Compliance Review Commission (CRC) met August 26 to consider OVDC's appeal of VCDCC's decision not to renew the club's charter. The decision said VCDCC needs to reconsider charter renewal in an open meeting. VCDCC scheduled that meeting for Sept 1, 2026

  • August 26 Ojai Town Hall facilitated by Councilwoman Leslie Rule with VC Sheriff Fryhoff--- there is little to no support for immigrants in our community, and securing our ballots for the November 3 election is up to us---mail in ballots early for best results.


Local November 2026 Ballot 

Three Ojai City Council seats, the Mayor's race, and three Ojai Unified School Board trustee seats are on the ballot.

  • Mayor: Andy Gilman (incumbent) — running unopposed

  • District 1: Leslie Rule (incumbent)

  • District 2: Rachel Lang (incumbent)

  • District 3: Whitman — (incumbent) unopposed

General Election: November 3, 2026. Discussion themes to be raised: fire safety, housing, affordability, economic diversification, public safety.
